The video shows the thumb stroke embedded in a swinged common stroke using I. The thumb stroke demonstrated by RHJ is a slow arpeggio down stroke with the thumb falling from string to string, making a rather full and not too light sound.
The player holds onto the ukulele with the fingers while performing the sDT. After stroking the last string (a-string) the thumb ends up ‚inside‘ the hand near the ring finger. The emphasis is on the last note. The player uses the stroke to bring out melody tones on the a-string.“
